Migrant Action Trust

Migrant Action Trust believes that meaningful economic, social and political engagement of migrants and refugees leads to their healthy integration into society.

Its 3 programmes provide services to individuals, micro-enterprise owners and self-employed,  and community groups.

The first programme encourages well-settled migrants to help job seeking migrants. Services include Employment Support Group,  Micro-enterprise, Mentoring, Voluntary Work Experience, Jobsearch Support at the Libraries, E-jobsearch Assistance,  Job Alerts, Employment Relations, Advocacy, Individual Career Counseling, Professional Migrant Groups and Specialised Training/Workshop.  Currently being developed is the Migrant-Specific Employment Training

MAT believes that it needs to support migrants at the next level once they are employed hence the programme Assimilation to Integration.  This programme includes Conscious Parenting, Individual Counseling for family and other related issues, Household items to news settlers, Youth Programme,  Understanidng the Treaty of Waitangi and the Maori Culture and Issue-based forum.
Supporting Groups is the 3rd programme aimed at helping community groups so they can have more time helping their own communities settle in the New Zealand.  The Common Office & Resource (COR) Service falls under this and provides office space and resources for the use of groups so they can concentrate on doing what they are good at.  The resources also include making use of staff and volunteers to assist groups in organizational, admin and finance, grant application, marketing and public relation, event and project management and other office services.
